| STATEMENT My work begins with constructing a 3D model culled from, usually, although not always, from film. The 3D model is photographed which is then reproduced into print. The choice in medium informs each other well. Previous learning has affected my ideas. I have distinguished between two types of print, the object and the atmospheric. My images allude to a particular film, in my current practice I’ve kept the filmic reference theme but not exclusively. I, however, consider the narrative of the work. My intention is not to create images that replicate but aspire to the conditions of film. The images are informed by my previous work. I’ve realise how the technique of print can affect the mood of the work, photo etching evokes a painterly quality despite being replicated from a photograph. Although my work is not always culled from a particular film of reference, it aspires to the conditions of film. The act of making my own props, use of light and shade, depth of field and composition are some of the conditions you will normally find on a film set. All of my images are carefully chosen in a makeshift vision. |
